A breath of fresh air at Le Germain Hotel Toronto

Louise Dupont is partner and designer at LEMAYMICHAUD and played a major role in Le Germain Hotel Toronto’s rooms redesign.

Louise Dupont gives us her take on trends for a cozy bedroom.

Ms. Dupont, as a partner and designer at LEMAYMICHAUD, you have collaborated with Group Germain for over 10 years, how would you describe the signature of Le Germain hotels in terms of design?

Each Le Germain is different and has its own personality. The common aspects in terms of design are warm colours, a mix of materials – such as wood and glass – and the fact that they are chic but always inviting.

Le Germain Hotel Toronto recently transformed its guest rooms, a project for which you were the lead designer. What trends did you take into consideration for this makeover?

First of all, materials that are available today are increasingly technical and sophisticated; they are often designed according to environmentally while not neglecting performance and durability. For example, the wall covering applied to the wall behind the bed in the new guest rooms here at the hotel are made with a felt-inspired material called ‘’Svelte’’ and it is 95% post-consumer recycled matter.

Furthermore, LED lighting is now a standard in the industry. We use concealed lighting systems to highlight walls - light can thus emerge from very small areas; creating a halo effect without seeing where it comes from.
