Only in Toronto for a short layover? Here is how to make the most of your spare time between your flights.
After a long flight, you’ll probably crave a hot shower and a good night sleep. Come drop your bags at the Alt Hotel Toronto Airport, which is easily accessible by the free Link train departing from Terminal 1. Leave the train at Viscount station.
You’ll probably want to enjoy your day as much as you can, so we suggest you leave early in the morning. Grab a bite at the Altcetera, located in our lobby. Opened 24/7, you’ll find a variety of healthy meals, hot sandwiches and many choices of beverages.
Step in the Link train again up to Terminal 1, where you’ll change train to take the UP Express Pearson Airport. You’ll find yourself at Union Station, right in the heart of Toronto, in 25 minutes. The journey from your bedroom to downtown Toronto will take approximately 50 minutes.
As you’ll only have a couple of hours in Toronto, might as well stay near Union Station to quickly go back to the airport.
Start your little excursion by gazing up at the sky. You’re right under the famous CN Tower. If you’re not afraid of heights, make your way to the top of the tower to enjoy a spectacular view of the city.
Continue on Front St E until it meets Wellington St E. You will find the popular Gooderham Building, also known as the ‘’Flatiron Building of Toronto’’. It is one of the most photographed buildings in the city.
Walk a little further and you’ll arrive at St. Lawrence Market where you can buy fresh food for your lunch break.
Turn right to the South to find The Esplanade Street. Walk along a series of cute parks up to the historic Distillery District where you’ll find many art galleries, small coffee shops, hip restaurants and boutiques.
Retrace your steps to Union Station by walking along the waterfront to Queen’s Quay Terminal. Take in the gorgeous views of the planes landing in nearby Billy Bishop Airport.
Ready to go back? You are at a 10-minute walk from Union Station.
If you still have some spare time, take the bus (route 510 is your best option) to go to Kensington Market to browse the vintage shops before going back home.
