Author Kim Thúy shares her favourites spots in Montreal.
Author Kim Thúy is a foodie. She loves to eat and her appetite is simply endless. That is why most of her best addresses in Montreal are places where you can feast, from dessert to dinner.
PEPIN SHOP, 350 SAINT-PAUL STREET WEST
There is a wide range of local and imported products: candles, throws, kitchen items, furniture. This is the perfect place to find a nice hostess gift, according to Kim Thúy.
KEM COBA, 60 FAIRMOUNT AVENUE WEST
Kim Thúy says she travels from Longueuil, where she lives, all the way to the Mile-End in Montreal just to get her durian-flavored ice cream, an exotic product that is rather rare to find. Other flavors to try: salted butter, orange blossom and seasonal fruits.
DROGHERIA FINE, 68 FAIRMOUNT AVENUE WEST
For a delicious meal of homemade gnocchi at a very low price. While you are there, stock up on their famous Bolognese sauce.
AGRIKOL, 1844 AMHERST STREET
A restaurant with Haitian flavors that offers dishes such as accras, fried whole fish, ground corn, oxtail and more.
WESTMOUNT LIBRARY AND PARK, 4574 SHERBROOKE STREET WEST
This is where the author learned to play tennis, speak English, and swim, when she was very young and freshly arrived in Quebec. It is also where she began to write.
LA BÊTE À PAIN
Simply the best baguette in town, according to Kim Thúy. You could also have one of their famous sandwiches or pastries.Watch the ''One of the Family'' video with Kim Thuy and Chris Nuttall-Smith in Montreal.
