The gentle pace of life, wide-open spaces and cultural offerings of the National Capital often take people by surprise. Photographer Jeanne Rondeau-Ducharme shares what she discovered on her first visit to Ottawa!
An artistic city
Culture is everywhere in Ottawa, which has several museums and public art installations. Jeanne fell in love with the National Gallery of Canada, particularly the work of Louise Bourgeois, Maman, which is part of the museum's outdoor collection. While strolling through the streets, she discovered the richness of urban art in the city, especially this year with the Art in the Capital project, which showcases temporary works and installations from Canadian artists!
Gourmet experience
During her stay, the photographer was charmed by the Happy Goat café located in the Sandy Hill neighbourhood, an area that she particularly appreciated for its beautiful houses and peaceful atmosphere. For happy hour, she recommends the relaxed atmosphere of Norca restaurant; and gives a special mention to their Pisco Sour cocktail, one of her favourites. To enjoy a meal in the heart of the ByWard Market atmosphere, she recommends Play Food and Wine restaurant, for the quality of its wine list and its tasty ricotta gnocchi.
Relaxation and discovery
In addition to discovering the many attractions of the capital, Jeanne travelled just outside the city to enjoy the Källa treatment at Nordik Spa-Nature. It’s an extraordinary experience that replicates the beneficial effects of the Dead Sea, in a saltwater flotation pool, where she was able to relax completely (and even fall asleep a little while she was floating!). She fell in love with this larger-than-life spa on her first visit. It’s definitely worth another trip!
To end her stay on a high note, Jeanne was happy to discover the unique experience of Parc Nature Éco-Odyssée and its 6.5 km maze of canals surrounded by greenery that can be explored by canoe, kayak or paddleboard. A peaceful and unusual experience, the perfect continuation of her Zen morning at the spa.
Working from the hotel
As a self-employed worker, Jeanne is used to remote working. On her adventures, she carves out time in her schedule to work, no matter where she is. During her stay at Le Germain Ottawa, Jeanne enjoyed being able to work directly from her comfortable room. Being in a different, cozy and well-designed environment allowed her to be both productive and inspired. What better way to extend a weekend getaway than to stay one more day while working in your robe!
