The Olympian shows us around her hometown.
For Olympian Isabelle Weidemann, who lives in Calgary and travels the world for her championships and competitions, returning to Ottawa means returning home.
Born in the Canadian capital, the athlete says she always loved the historic side of the city, something she sometimes misses when she travels. Another aspect that she likes from her hometown? "The parks are beautiful and the cultural scene is very active. There is always something to do here."
Here are her best addresses that, you will notice, are pretty much all outside!
Happy Goat Coffee Company, multiple addresses
This small Ottawa-born chain grows and gains popularity at a quick pace. There is excellent coffee (the Flat White is one of their specialties) as well as Cold Brew and homemade kombucha.
It is in this beautiful park adjacent to Parliament that Isabelle has spent many Canada Day celebrations with her family. However, you can walk there at any time, not just on July 1st, to admire the neighbouring buildings and have one of the most beautiful views over Gatineau.
Tourists and locals go to the ByWard Market to stock up on provisions: fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, fresh pasta, cheeses, and more. It is also a place where there are several trendy restaurants and varied menus to please all palates.
A paradise for joggers, walkers, cyclists and other athletes: this track, which crosses Canada, as its name suggests, runs along the Ottawa River and offers a beautiful setting for physical activity.
