Mulled wine is a must come Holiday season. Popular in traditional European Christmas markets, it is especially comforting when drunk outside in the cold or to warm up as soon as you get home. It is an ideal cocktail to prepare in large quantities to serve to several guests at the same time.
Here is the spiced mulled wine recipe by Danielle Pingert, Bar Manager at Bokeh on the Plaza located in the Alt Hotel Saskatoon.
Spiced Mulled Wine
Preparation time : 20 minutes
Number of guests : 6
Difficulty level : super easy
Vegan
Ingredients :
1 bottle of red wine (you can mix bottles)
¼ cup of brandy
2 ounces or 60ml of Grand Marnier
3 ounces or 1/3 cup of honey
1 whole orange, cut into slices
2 cinnamon sticks
A handful of cranberries
2-4 slices of star anise
Pinch of cloves
Preparation :
- Combine the ingredients in a medium saucepan
- Heat on the stove and simmer for 10 minutes
- Serve hot
For an alcohol-free version:
Ingredients :
Replace wine with cranberry juice and orange juice (grape juice also works)
1 whole orange, cut into slices
2 cinnamon sticks
2 ounces or ¼ cup of honey
Brown sugar to taste
A handful of cranberries
2-4 star anise slices
Pinch of cloves
Preparation :
- Combine the ingredients in a medium saucepan
- Heat on the stove and simmer for 10 minutes
- Serve hot
