Ottawa is blooming : three parks, three flowers to discover

There are more than just tulips in Ottawa during springtime: head over to Canada’s capital to explore the multiple blooms that spring has to offer.

APRIL

CHERRY BLOSSOMS AT DOMINION ARBORETUM

The oldest arboretum in Canada is home of many trees and shrubs. At the end of April up until the first few days in May, cherry trees will be blooming in the park for approximately 21 days. In the northeast part of the garden, you can also find gorgeous magnolias, rhododendrons and wisteria. Entry is free and the park is open from sunrise to sunset.

MAY

CANADIAN TULIP FESTIVAL

From May 10 to the 20th, Ottawa is the host of the Canadian Tulip Festival where visitors can admire more than a million blooming flowers. Although it is very crowded, the Commissioners Park is the very best place to photograph dozens of varieties of tulips in a multitude of colours. Entry is free but be sure to have some cash on you as there are food trucks and local art shops on the site.

JUNE

ROSE GARDENS AT THE CENTRAL EXPERIMENTAL FARM

Very rare varieties of roses can be found in the Ornamental Gardens, located right in the heart of downtown Ottawa. You can visit the Heritage Rose Garden as well as the Explorer Rose Garden. The best moment to explore these gardens are mid-June. While you are there, don’t forget to check out the lilac, peonies and iris collections.
